London events venue Glaziers Hall is encouraging meeting and event professionals to swap public transport for a stroll through the city, to celebrate Walk to Work Day (Friday 5 April).

The day is aimed at getting people more active, celebrating their local surroundings and reducing their carbon footprint, by carrying out either all or part of their journey to work on foot.

For anyone working in London, hopping on the tube is often the preferred way to travel, but as Transport for London’s Walking Tube Map shows, in many cases it’s actually quicker to walk between stations and avoid the crowds.

Glaziers Hall is backing the Walk to Work Day initiative, not only in support of the health and environmental benefits it brings, but in celebration of the venue’s local area in Bankside and London Bridge.

Prudence Jaguelin, operations manager at Glaziers Hall, said: “Glaziers Hall is extremely well-connected by public transport, with London Bridge station just a five-minute walk away, but many people don’t realise how easily accessible the venue is by walking from other parts of London. For example, for anyone commuting into London Waterloo, instead of battling the morning rush hour on the Jubilee Line you could walk and be here in just 25 minutes, feeling refreshed and less stressed.

“We are lucky with our riverside location that it’s a very scenic walk too – walking along the river through Southbank and Bankside you take in so many of London’s famous sites that often, if you work in the city, you can take for granted. We would love it if more people used Walk to Work Day as an excuse to celebrate the city, while boosting their energy levels with some morning exercise that will set the tone for a productive day.”

Even if you can’t complete your entire journey to work by walking, you can still join in with Walk to Work Day by getting off the train, tube or bus a stop earlier than usual, or parking further from your workplace.

If you’re travelling to the Bankside area, Glaziers Hall has highlighted the walking times from several of central London’s main stations which include 25 minutes from London Waterloo, 33 minutes from Embankment, 11 minutes from Bank, 10 minutes from Borough and just 7 minutes from Monument.
